Do NOT call the number +6281370730151, which I got from this forum. This led me to a very dishonest man named Inong who repeatedly ripped us off and lied to us. He works for the
Jungle Inn, but it seemed like there were other people at this establishment who were not as dishonest as Inong. I believe that we would have had a better experience if we would not have been involved with this particular representative of the Jungle Inn.
Even so, I would not recommend the Jungle Inn in general. The accommodation itself is adequate, but nothing great. Basic, damp, dusty, no shower, mosquito-ridden. Cars cannot reach this location. It is a 15-20 minute rocky hike from where a car can go, so you either have to carry your own luggage or hire a porter to take it on the rough trail. Although it is close to the Orangutan Feeding Centre as the crow flies, it is on the other side of the river. Therefore, you have to walk quite far back towards the center of Bukit Lawang to reach the bridge that you cross to see Orangutans or go trekking.
Absolutely do not book any trekking through Jungle Inn. For 2 people, they charged us 1,500,000 rupiah for a 1 day trek with rafting. When they told us the price, it seemed like too much, but we had arrived in Bukit Lawang late at night and it was too dark to wander looking for other places to compare with. They assured us it was the standard price, and we trusted them. After our trek the next day, we learned that the Indonesia Guide Assocation sets a maximum price for trekking, which is 420,000 rupiah per person for a 1 day trek with rafting. This is a MAXIMUM price. Everyone that we met trekking out in the jungle had paid less – 300,000 to 400,000 rupiah. The Jungle Inn overcharged us by at least 660,000 rupiah! We confronted them Inong and he came up with all kinds of excuses and lies. It really saddened me to have this man lie to our faces. It was the low point of our travels in SE Asia.
