Hey guys,

So I wanted to post on this forum because I think it's really helpful to get as much information as possible about your guide before you decide to go trekking with them. I went trekking in the jungle with Doni about 2 weeks ago now (I'm currently in Ubud), and I was just so impressed with his knowledge about the jungle-his grandfather was a medicine man so he knows all about the fauna and flora and their healing properties. Not only that but his love, passion and enthusiasm of the jungle was just incredible. He insists he's the 'happiest man in the world' and it clearly seemed so on the trip. I spent 3 days and 2 nights in the jungle and I can't recommend him highly enough. He knew so much about all the wildlife and we saw an amazing total of 7 wild orangutans-including mothers with their babies. It was such an incredible experience. Not only does Doni know so much about the jungle, but he also made it such good fun too, and kept me entertained with magic tricks at night. Also, what's more important was that as a female traveler going into the jungle by myself I felt completely safe and at ease with him and his team...and I know there have been cases in the past when this has been a problem-but Doni is extremely professional and good fun. I also planted a mango tree in the jungle on my trek. Doni's great idea is that every trekker he takes into the jungle is given a fruit tree sapling to plant-ensuring the orangutans and other wildlife have a constant food supply. Lots of orangutans would go onto farmers lands and eat their fruit, and sometimes farmers get angry and violent towards them! I just loved the idea of planting a fruit tree-leaving a positive reminder of myself in the jungle. It was truly one of the most fantastic experiences of my life!
